darkstalkers: lord raptor

here's my entry for udon studio's "darkstalkers tribute book"...
i've been dying to post it , and now that the books are published, i'm
finally allowed to! i wasn't very familiar with the game when i began
working on this piece, but once i began to do some research, demonic
guitar player lord raptor stood out to me as a character that i could
have a lot of fun with.

i've seen a bunch of the artwork for the tribute popping up on deviant...
each and every one of the selected entries is unique and amazing. if you
can't make it to one of the cons that udon will be at, here's a link to order the hardcover online!

invaders poster

just in time for the fourth of july, here's that original team
of american heroes: captain america! namor the submariner!
the human torch! together, they are the invaders!

this is my entry for the upcoming "golden age" group show at
brave new worlds comics. the show is being put on by
the autumn society of philadelphia.

nearfest '09 beer logo

every year around this time, i get the opportunity to design a beer logo for my buddy chad hutchinson over at ghostland. he runs a phenomenal progressive rock festival called nearfest in bethlehem, pennsylvania and the local brewery (bethlehem brew works) always cooks up a special batch in honor of the event. this year's beer is a germany-style pilsner entitled "atom heart pilsner," inspired by the classic bovine-adorned pink floyd album, "atom heart mother" from 1970.

gettin' thirsty just thinking about it...

return of the jedi poster

the trilogy is finally complete!
(well, my version of it anyway.)

people have been asking for a while if i had plans to do a return of the jedi poster to go along with the new hope and empire strikes back i had done a few years back...and i finally squirreled away enough time to finally get it done. hope the people that were asking for it aren't disappointed...may the force be with you!

samurai werewolf poster

here's the poster i created for the tutorial that i wrote over at vectortuts.

what's more badass than a japanese lycanthrope fighting a winged vampire clan member with a katana under a full moon? beats me...if you can think of anything, let me know.

80's action cartoon villains

this is my entry for the upcoming "80's pop!" group show at
brave new worlds comics. the show is being put on by
the autumn society of philadelphia.

man, i love the 80's...especially all of the amazin' cartoons of that
era that brainwashed the kids of my generation into buying boatloads
of plastic action figures. and judging by the looks of my home office
nowadays, that brainwashing doesn't deprogram with time.

show opening:
friday, june 5th, 2009

time:
6-9 pm

location:
brave new worlds comics

transformers collectors club cover

now that this has premiered over at the official transformers
collectors club website
, i can finally post it!

this is the cover to "eye in the sky", a prose story set in the transformers collectors club's "shattered glass" timeline, where the autobots are evil and the
decepticons are the heroes who save the day! the cover features snippets of the four images that i created for the interior story. i'll post the full illustrations at a later date...have to protect the exclusivity of the art, as the story is for collectors club members only.

it's such an honor to have done official work on a property that was such a huge part of my childhood!

silverhawks commission

wings of silver, nerves of steel... silverhawks!
partly metal, partly real... silverhawks!
soaring through the highway of the heavens in their flight,
silverhawks, a rainbow in the night!

re: "partly metal, partly real"...what? metal's not real?

unlike transformers, gi joe, thundercats and masters of the universe,
this was one of those 80's cartoons (along with bravestarr) that was
not part of my regular television diet as a kid. not that i didn't like
it, it was just slightly off of my radar somehow. still, i cannot deny
the awesomeness of those character designs...or that theme song.

black wolf society pinup

i just finished hammering this pinup out for j.s. lewis, the writer of the
grey griffins series of books.

the creature is a black wolf society member, one of the characters
from his new line of books. they're a group of evil, gas mask wearin'
commandos that turn into werewolves. pretty nifty, huh?

at any rate, the image will run in a sketchbook that will debut at san
diego comicon. it will includes an array of j.s.'s characters from different
stories, illustrated by a wide variety of artists. the book is called
"the mysterious journal of j.s. lewis" and it'll be available here
right after comicon.
